Work Team Mindfulness

IMG_7399aMindfulness skills adapted to work teams can create tremendous shifts in an organizational setting. They spark team members’ energy and creativity, and build a sense of commitment and satisfaction working together!

Recent research suggests that when team members practice mindfulness skills (even without doing it together), this leads to more effective communication, safety, and trust, which in turn helps team members undo habituated unproductive behaviors, build focus, clarify tasks, and engage in creative thinking.

For mindfulness skills to live up to their full potential, they need to be introduced and calibrated to the group, organizational, and programmatic context, and supported by experienced coaching. This is particularly challenging when the team is contending with an ambitious work plan – and everyone is convinced there’s no way they can squeeze in the time for one more thing!

Work Team Mindfulness In Context is a group approach that includes:

(1) a thorough assessment of the team, its members, and organizational context

(2) customized short group mindfulness skill-building sessions integrated into the on-going and in-the-moment activity of the team, which include materials you can easily refer to

(3) support through focused team member, small group, and full team coaching (regularly scheduled conversations, along with a system of brief reminders and as-needed check-ins).

Through this approach, team members are able to:

  • Manage difficult conversations effectively and authentically
  • Clarify priorities, roles and responsibilities
  • Make necessary decisions regarding on-going projects and launching new initiatives
  • Support each other to reduce stress and anxiety related to overwhelm, multitasking, and digital fatigue

The result is a happier, more productive work group with team members passionate about contributing to the organization in the long haul.
